I tied my record*
I don’t get the chance to go many Saturday games. That is too bad since the gates open a half hour earlier than they do during the week. I got to the Dome about 15 minutes before the gates opened and was about 20th in line. That looked to suck for my Easter egg chances.
I ran in and started looking for Easter eggs anyway. As I was looking I heard a clunk about 20 feet away. I was in a very non crowded area so I really had no competition as I scurried to pick it up. I was on the board!
I went to left field to try some traditional snagging with no luck at all. It was crowded with kids, the players were all wearing warm ups so you didn’t know who the opposing players were. The music was loud and lousy and the players were also playing very shallow so if you did know their names, they were to far away to holler at.
I decided to take my show on the road. As I was walking around to the first base side I found an Easter egg for ball #2 on the night. It was weird finding one 20 or so minutes after the gates opened. But I wasn’t complaining at all.
Ball number 3 is the one that I will defer to my more experienced ballhawking comrades on whether or not it counts or not. It is the reason for the asterisk in the title.
After waiting awhile a ball rolled to the bullpen catcher. I was only person in the entire section with a glove. Not hard since there were only 4-5 other people total in the section. I called out his name from my cheat sheet and he threw the ball to me. His throw was off and bounced off of a railing and rolled behind me. A guy scooped it up and underhanded it to me. The ball was thrown to me. I was the one that asked for it and I was literally the only person against the railing. The guy that scooped it up had no second thoughts about giving it to me since the ball was meant for me. However, should it count in my stats for the night since I could not field the ball cleanly and had an assist from another fan?
I then went to my seat and the Bat Man hooked me up with my fourth ball of the night. The guy is 20 years old so I have a little trouble calling him bat boy.
Towards the middle innings, I asked Joe Vavra, the hitting coach for the Twins for a ball. He complied nicely and I had 5 balls on the night! That tied my record for one game. Or did it? I will wait until Zack and the ballhawking elders weigh in.
